Dating a lane cedar chest
The legs appear to be newer but if they were well protected over the years that may be why the look so good. Measure the width of the boards and post a photo of the inside.I just purchased a lane cedar chest, It is a 1940's one. I don't plan on selling it in the near future Lane Cedar Chest serial numbers indicate the month, day, year it was made. From some basic research I have done I could if I wanted to sell it for between 0-300.00.
Whereby before that the chest might command 00, today 0 in a central Virginia Auction.
Look for those numbers and let me know, then I can take the next step of giving you the value.
There is usually a style number AND a serial number (see photos), but that is not a 100% rule.
If you do decide to sell it, take all this into consideration, set a price and if it doesn't sell, lower your price. If the price they offer is fine with you, then your sale is a success and both of you are happy.
You can also go to or and search their directory for an auction house near you and consign to them.
